Non-digest and probe messages are received, but digest messages contain no Message-ID or X-Mailer headers (see below) and are therefore rejected. Early June I prepared a cleanup operation for the D-I subversion repository that involves a dump + load of the repository database + some manipulations of certain revisions.
When I did these preparations (on 3, 4 and 5 June) I could do a database dump + load within something like an hour.

When I tried to do the cleanup for real this morning the I/O was so slow that the same dump + load would have taken several *days* to complete. Because of that I've had to abort the planned cleanup.

I hope you will be able to resolve this serious performance issue and bring alioth back up to speed again.

Please let me know if you'd like me to try again to see if speed is back what it was at the beginning of the month.

It elides everything before the ""From "" of an embedded git format-patch style patch. E.g., I sent this, http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/parted-devel/2010-February/003430.html, but the original had totally different headers and contained 50 lines of body text before the patch you see there. None of that is archived. It used From:, Date:, Subject: from the patch, rather than from the mail I sent.

Where I've seen this before, the problem has been fixed by upgrading to a newer version of mailman. It's particularly annoying when the patch is by someone else; the mangling makes it look like that person posted a patch with no commentary other than the (sometimes brief log message), when in fact, I'm the one who posted it, usually along with significant discussion (which was removed).

Fixing this particular case is not urgent for me (I'll just use bug-parted@gnu.org rather than parted-devel.a.d.o, going forward), but archiving such mangled posts makes Debian look bad.

there is some underlying, more serious problem. (In fact, looking at the

Reviewing some of the mailing lists I administer and have neglected for some time I've noticed that, in many of them had a number of subscriptors from the 'apotmail.com' domain. For example: Dacia.hale@apotmail.com, Kori.oconnor@apotmail.com and Mirtha.mills@apotmail.com.

Some of these lists were largely unused and were catching only spam. Which is an indication that these subscriptions are bogus and have been made either to send spam or to programatically retrieve the list of subscriptors to the mailing list (and harvest email addresses)

Googling I've found that:

a) This domain seems to be related to SPAM

b) This behaviour has been detected in other mailing lists. For reference:
http://linuxmafia.com/pipermail/conspire/2011-June/006298.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users@python.org/msg59525.html

Please consider adding a SRV record for _git._tcp.git.debian.org. A single record with weight 0 pointing to wagner.debian.org should do the trick, though if you want to go wild with the client-side failover and load balancing features, that should work, too.

For the sake of clients using versions of git without this feature, the proxying in inetd.conf would still be needed. See http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2011/05/msg00942.html for context.

I happened to notice there are several git repositories on alioth that contain ++ in the repository name, and while git seems to work fine, gitweb doesn't seem to support this.

For example, the following return 404s:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/flexc++.git
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/png++.git
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/fact++.git

I realize that this isn't a high priority issue in the scheme of things, but wasn't sure how else to report it. Also, I was wondering what the right way to make folks aware of this limitation would be. Should the setup-repository script on vasks disallow the creation of repositories that contain '+'? Or is there some chance that an update to gitweb would fix the issue?

I'm in the midst of migrating several packages to collab-maint may end up naming the repositories with ""pp"" in place of ""++"", but it does seem that most of the Debian infrastructure works correctly with '+', so thought I would ask.

I think, this description while supposedly meant humorously is not appropriate for a policy document. At least this sentence will keep me away from participating on prject work on alioth. I would highly appreciate, if this could be changed.

Additionally (please tell me, if I should open another report) it should be evaluated IMHO, if DMs shouldn't be granted the same rights as DDs with respect to project creation etc..

as I intend to switch one of the pkg-gnutls packages (p11-kit ) to git I have enabled GIT in the www frontend. According to http://wiki.debian.org/Alioth/Git#Separate_project this should have created a /git/pkg-gnutls/ and allowed me to generate repositories there.

However the script generated a separate repository in this directory without without giving me write permissions for /git/pkg-gnutls/ itself:

ametzler@vasks:~$ ls -la /git/pkg-gnutls
total 28
drwxrwxr-x   3 root root            4096 Jun 15 12:06 .
drwxr-xr-x 425 root root           20480 Jun 15 12:30 ..
drwxrwsr-x   7 root scm_pkg-gnutls  4096 Jun 15 12:06 pkg-gnutls.git

Please fix, thanks in advance.
