Summary:
hotkeys / volume doesn't work for some audio cards

Detailed description
Volume regulation with hotkeys doesn't work for some cards.

For example with "VIA 8237" card one can only regulate volume using "PCM" control.

When one regulates volume or mutes using "master" control, nothing happens - in other words, "master" control is dead, and PCM should be used.

Because of that, hotkeys can't change volume on that card.

However, I'm not sure if this can be easily fixed without adding ALSA support to hotkeys.

This could be fixed by adding some configuration to hotkeys that determines which volume control should be used. This requires no support from alsa, although this also won't work out-of-the-box.

same bug on INTEL HDA, after upgrade from linux 2.6.19 to 2.6.21.
on 2.6.19 hotkeys worked, on 2.6.21 there was a change on the mixer layout and tho hotkeys couldn't find 'Master' anymore.
