Summary:
Progress percentage wrong for certain large scanjobs

Detailed description
When scanning with 4800dpi (as shown below), the progress display starts to count negative percentages, surpassing -100%. It stops around -380% and instantly shows 100%%, after which the scanning process seems to hang, after some time, it starts counting down from 99.9%%% to 0.0%%%% and then goes negative again and the process repeats.

$ scanimage -p -l 30 -x 170 -y 220 --resolution 4800 --mode "48 bits color" --format tiff >/dev/null

Followups: Sort comments antichronologically

What scanner/backend combination produces this behaviour?

The code in scanimage.c that produces these messages is correct assuming that the backend:
- reports the number of bytes read correctly
- knows upfront how many scanlines will be produced.
