Canon PIXMA MG5350 scans extremely unreliable with 1.0.27 (regression from 1.0.25)

Detailed description
With 1.0.27, scanning a page (A4, 300 DPI, colour, gnome-simple-scan) almost always fails part-way through (occasionally a page scan will complete).

Sometimes the scanner will revert to "ready" status (if the scan fails near the end of the page); more frequently the scanner continues to show "scanning" after a failure message is shown on the frontend program.

This does not seem to be the same issue as #315827 (which from the subsequent patches seemed to be about not sending a "scan complete" message to the scanner at the end of successfully receiving a full page); rather it looks like a mid-receive interruption.

This is a regression from 1.0.25, which has been 100% reliable for scans from this device.

The downstream Fedora maintainer was kind enough to do two scratch builds, one cherry-picking the patches relating to #315827, the second from current head, and neither fixed the issue.

Louis, can you take a look? Please reassign to Rolf as you see fit.

Sorry, I cannot find a problem in the sub-backend driver.

Please install SANE from git as described in INSTALL.linux ( and find the corrupting commit with 'git bisect', 'make && sudo make install' and a test scan. Please read git's man page for details (man git-bisect).

Tip: You can fasten compiling time while excluding all other backends: './configure BACKENDS="pixma"'.
